Sangram:I used to have a disease called Rheumatic Arthritis, commonly known as Gout. I couldn't stand, I couldn't walk, I couldn't speak. My body would swell, and I would cry out in pain. I became very thin, and doctors said I wouldn't live for six months. Any disease, I cure it with food, by breathing, by drinking water.
From the position of eating and the position of sleeping. A Japanese company had evaluated the body's worth at three hundred twenty-two crore twenty lakh, a healthy body's value. Remember this. You should take care of your body more than money. Because, see, if the body deteriorates, then money won't be able to fix it. And if the body is fine, you can manage the money.
Ryan:You are right.
Sangram:Your body is your...
And I can tell from my experience whether you want to be a goat or a lion. I said, I don't understand. A goat keeps chewing all day, keeps bleating
mixed:are.
Sangram:The lion hunts its prey and eats it within a day or two. Those who eat once are yogis, those who eat twice are bhogis, and those who eat three times... Many will say that this is the age to eat and drink. Later in old age, you'll only be drinking soup. They are not fit. They appear fit, but the wall is about to fall. If you put pressure on it, the wall won't hold. It will collapse. I tell everyone, eat when you have time, eat homemade food. But sleep an hour and a half after that, at night. There was a time when I had 920 rupees in my account, so I gave up 2.5 crore worth of cold drinks. Yes, I don't drink cold drinks, so I gave them up. Now I had no money. There were 920 rupees in the account.

He seems like a very passionate person. Sangram, Namaste, Sangram, Namaste, Namaste, welcome to my podcast, Riyan Bhai.
Sangram:Namaste, brother. And thank you so much for having me. Thank you very much for inviting me.
Ryan:I am going to be very nervous in this podcast because I have to do it in Shuddha Hindi and I always remember Sushil used to call me "Doctor Sahab" and he was speaking in Hindi and I was speaking in English and it was a very very beautiful dialogue but you just came back from Dubai.
What win? Tell us about it.
Sangram:this, this win. Look, I always say one thing that in life, I never believe in success, defeat, achievement, or failure. I enjoy the process. Now, when I was in Dubai, I didn't know initially that I would be playing a wrestling match. Later, I saw that wrestling had become very famous over the past two years for different reasons. Because of Brij Bhushan Ji and the aspiring wrestlers, I mean, the current champion wrestlers. Kids like Bajrang, Sakshi, and Vinesh came to me. I have worked a lot with Brij Bhushan Ji because I was the first brand ambassador of the Wrestling Federation of India in 2014-15. Then I was told that a lot of things were going differently, and I was observing this every day. It felt like wrestling was going backward. I won't say anyone is right or wrong; it's about time. They say that what were colors yesterday are stains today. What were colors yesterday are stains today. Wow. Powerful.
So, time has its own unique thing. Then when I went to Dubai. At this age, would you believe it? That I, where did I prepare for this? How did I play in this?
Ryan:how
Sangram:play.
We will do stretching. What's your age? No, my body age is around 14-15 years. Yes. So, age doesn't matter whether you are in your 40s, younger, or older. It doesn't make a difference. It's in the mind, I think. It's in the mind. You become what you think. And let me tell you one more thing, like we think that we should eat this protein, take these vitamins, drink this water.
I read about many cricketers who drink imported water. I'm saying... you know, drink pond water, drink well water, if you think that you are drinking the best water in the world, then it will work in your body the way you have thought in your mind.
Ryan:It means you are saying that your vibration should be the most powerful and influential thing for whatever is near you, or what you are drinking, or what you are eating. You are not saying, vibrate once and leave it, because that thing needs to be influenced by your vibration continuously.
It will become the best. It will turn into gold.
Sangram:Ryan, it doesn't matter what your personality is like, your mentality should be good. As you eat, so will be your mind. As you drink water, so will be your speech. As your company, so will be your color. So, I have never gotten into the fuss of protein and vitamins. I eat whatever I get and stay happy.
Ryan:I have a study to share with you. A milkshake study was conducted in America, okay? There were two groups in an auditorium. One group was told, "Hey, we will give you a good, healthy milkshake with low calories," while the other group was told, "Hey, you will get a high-calorie, high-fat, unhealthy milkshake," and then their blood samples were taken.
You felt an itch, an itch inside your body, they swapped the milkshakes without telling the participants, Sangram, what was the result is exactly what you are saying. The people who thought they were getting the good milkshake, low calorie, low fat, very healthy for them, actually got the bad milkshake.
They were supposed to get a bad milkshake, but they got a good one. What they found out is that the human mind can reduce inflammation in the body. So, there is actually a study, and if everyone applies this to their body or their life, Ryan Faneto wouldn't have a job. Ryan
Sangram:Brother, look, let me tell you a small thing, this body is very strong, it won't be affected by minor illnesses. Not by small things, in a post-mortem, you have to cut with a knife, so you shouldn't worry about small things. People like me, you know, if everyone were like me, doctors would sit at home, everyone would sit at home, because what I believe is that you shouldn't eat after sunset.
Afterwards, sell gutka, do whatever you want, many people give advice. You shouldn't eat after sunset. Hey brother, we are working people. Not everyone is blessed to eat at 7 PM and then be free. Sometimes we get free at 9 PM, sometimes at 10 PM. I eat heartily at 11 PM. I tell everyone, eat whenever you get time, make sure to eat, but after an hour or so at night, take a little walk, do something because if you don't eat, if you don't eat for three days, you'll feel dizzy, your face will turn pale. Now there are so many diets, this diet, that diet, the third diet, the fourth diet. Now Ryan brother, you know what?
I can make ten pills for you.
So, the thing is, eat good food. I always say that if you get minerals, proteins, and all that, it's great. Even if you don't get them, just work out. In my life, I do only two things: work or work out. Yes, just these two things, nothing else. Everything falls under these two categories, and I don't pay attention to anything else. Like, when it comes to food, I try, even when I go out.
So at night, I eat porridge or khichdi with my own desi ghee, jaggery, turmeric, and salt. I carry these with me.
Ryan:You mean you carry it with you?
Sangram:When I travel, so when you went to Dubai and all, you had this? Yes, absolutely, wherever I go, to any corner, ghee, turmeric, salt, a little bit of jaggery, that will stay with me, so I eat that. And I go, work out, don't think unnecessarily, don't pay unnecessary attention, to what is there, look, we are all running. I don't have to reach anywhere.
Come with a closed fist, leave with an open one. This process of life, you have to enjoy it, that's the fun of it, it's the same everywhere. Now, you will laugh at the wrestling match I was playing. Where, in Dubai? In Dubai, that guy was seventeen years younger than me. And his coach, when he was active, we used to play together, I thought.
Ryan:Hey, where did this big guy come from?
Sangram:When you provoke like that, I mean, when he was there, hold this, hold, hold, you understand, right? They do it, but there was an old saying that, well, when you've taken down an elephant, you can't lose to a bull, right?
Ryan:Wow, Palke.
Sangram:The match wasn't about winning or losing, but the problem was there, and I believe that this match was like when many kids meet, I see it in sports or other things, when they reach around thirty, they feel like they've done a lot, got injured, and then they give up.
I
Sangram:I had said earlier that the match was for all those kids, for the youth, who have dreams of sports in their eyes. In life, I always think that... Don't give up. Don't give up. Never give up. I always think, I always say, circumstances. Circumstances means? Uh, situation. Situations and people cannot defeat me. Only God can defeat me. Finally, I face difficulties and situations...
And
Ryan:God, God, hope, hope. He watches over us with hope.
Sangram:And listen, do you know about God? God is up there. He watches us from above, from here, from there. He is within us, watching us from everywhere. But I believe that when you are right, when you are ethical, then everyone supports you. And I, I try very hard in my life, I work with hope.
If you try here, well, there was a small kid in the match, so what happened? Now, in new kids, what happens is that their speed and stamina are a bit better. Although it's not like only they will have speed and stamina, whoever makes the effort will have it. So, I was watching that, and I was wrestling with him, so I was giving him two points, giving him points.
So, I was scoring, I scored four points. I was doing all this. And what happened was, I was playing this beautiful game because wrestling is a gentleman's game, remember. Look, I, Sushil, Yogesh, and Amey used to train together at Chhatrasal Stadium. I still remember today, when Sushil won the medal, Sushil revived wrestling in 2008. Correct, because before that, modern wrestling was a bit down. And then I was the first wrestler who took wrestling from the arena to five-star shows, started doing shows, then started doing other things. Now I am doing films. You won't believe it, I didn't know what a Motivational Speech was. Today, I go to IIT, IIM, and even Harvard to teach them. I was that student who thought scoring 33 percent was a big achievement, and you know what, if we failed, we would look at the neighbor's number and write it down, roll number, because on that day, a person would get beaten more in anger. So, my father, I still remember, once my result was about to come the next day.
mixed:So
Sangram:They were going somewhere outside, they came back, hit me three or four times with their shoes, they used to wear shoes in the village, shoe prints. So one asked, why are you hitting? He said, "Brother, tomorrow the result will come out. I won't be here tomorrow. You know, the boy. You know, the boy. So give it to me today itself." "Today itself?"
Advanced payment. Advanced. Tomorrow is like that, I do it in advance. So, look, at home, our family used to beat us, at school, the master used to beat us, the teacher used to beat us, but it's important to study correctly, I'm telling you. Now I'm coming to that point. At home, the family used to beat us, the neighbors used to beat us, at school, the teacher used to beat us, then the family used to beat us again.
But to this day, I don't know what stress is, what anxiety is, what depression is. Remember, getting an education in school is very important, but the problem is with our education system.
They won't teach you the perspective of life. Schools should teach you how to live life, how to manage your finances, how to manage your relationships. If these things are taught in schools, then it will make a difference. Nowadays, kids are literate. Do you know what literate means? Those who get degrees. We are educated, those who grow up with values. Even today, if someone grows up with values, they won't just sit around. I talk to everyone, or he talks to everyone, so that's the difference in that education. Just studying doesn't make you wise.
By studying, you get a degree, and you can apply for a job. Actually, an educated person is someone who knows about values.
The very thought of self-sacrifice is what defines India, Hindustan. These values are instilled from childhood.
Ryan:comes from our parents, correct? So we learn this, God gives a little, but parents guide us. So, did your father...
Sangram:Shoes, right? No, my, my, my, what happened was, my mother supported me. What illness did I have? Rheumatic Arthritis. I wanted to ask you about
Ryan:that. How did you become a wrestler when you had all of this? The world doesn't know this, but what
Sangram:happened? I teach, and the motivation in my life is my rejection.
I was rejected in wrestling, rejected in motivational speeches, rejected on TV, rejected in films. Now I'm doing all the work where I was once rejected.
You got it from the film industry.
Then you keep taking the medicine, but nothing happens. In the doctor's language, this disease is 99.9 percent incurable.
Ryan:Yes, it is an autoimmune disorder.
Sangram:If I say that this disease is 200 percent curable.
mixed:Yes.
Sangram:Any condition, like sugar, BP, TB, cancer, jaundice, arthritis, is not a disease, it's a lifestyle disease. It's a fallacy.
It is not a disease. It is a lifestyle disorder.
You should eat two meals, it becomes less, you should eat two meals. Let me tell you one thing, this body, this body follows nature's rules, not science's rules. But nowadays, my friends, my young friends, whether they are dietitians or renowned nutritionists like you, or doctors, you know what they will say, "Oh my God, your metabolism will be affected if you even eat a biscuit, it will work just as much, the internal system will work just as fast, it will digest just as much, whether you eat a flower or not, it will work just as much." A main coach says that after that, you become a goat or a lion, I don't understand what to eat, then goats, goats all day, Hindi moody rati ghanide hainde ka.
A lion hunts its prey. The method will lead to illness, you know what it is? It will work the same. The one who eats once is a yogi, the one who eats twice is a bhogi, the one who eats thrice is a rogi. If you eat three times, you'll be a rogi, right? Remember, look, those who eat every two hours, I'm telling everyone, they eat every two hours.
mixed:He
Sangram:You're absolutely wrong, and I always give everyone a mantra, which I'll give to all of you as well: eat less than your hunger, drink double the water, work out triple, and laugh four times as much.
Ryan:Are you fit now?
This is Sangram Singh's signature statement, and today we got it.
Sangram:That's why I'm saying, food is meant for living, not living for food. Many will say, like I'm a vegetarian, I'm not saying non-veg is different, taste is different. My belief is that...
Eat only as much as your body needs. If you eat extra, what’s the point of going to the toilet or bathroom? Take a bull, for example. If you put fodder in front of it, any animal, it will eat only as much as it needs. But if you put food in front of a human, they will keep eating and eating, then they will have to be taken to the doctor. So tell me, who is wiser, the animal or us? Animals are wiser than us. Humans are not wise. Then they will talk big, and I always say one thing, remember this: you should take care of your body more than your wealth. Because if your body deteriorates, wealth won’t be able to save it. If your body is fine, you can manage your wealth. So, take care of your body. Many people ask me, who is your best friend?
I said there's one friend for whom I do a lot, and that's me. Many people say, "I am there for you, I am there for you, I am there for you." You'll laugh, if a person is not fit physically or mentally, I don't work with them. If I'm sitting there ruining myself, any work I do will cause more harm.
So remember that your friendship, your lifestyle, your eating style, your way of doing things, first you have to become your own friend. Only then can you be a friend to your family, your wife, your friends, everything. Many people say, "Yes! I'll do it!" Many people say, "I'm a party animal! I'm a party animal!" That's all they'll do...
Some people become party animals, you know, like owls... What do owls do? They stay awake all night. They sleep during the day. These party animals, they end up exhausted, my friend, after all the partying...
They permanently become party patients. They become party patients. Then all of them together are testing it out. You all are saying this. This body is your first need. A Japanese company had evaluated the body at 322 crore 20 lakh rupees. What are you saying? Yes. 322? In English? 322 crore, 20 lakh.
Fangaram, please tell me in English, man. 322 crores? 22 crores and 20 lakhs. The value of a human body, a healthy body. Now, tell me, isn't it amazing, how much will one earn? Maybe a crore if you get a good job. Will you get a job? Okay. Look, remember this. The one who gave the beak will also provide the grain, the one who gave yesterday will take care of tomorrow, and the ant somehow finds its way to food. So we have to work.
Ryan:on becoming the most expensive thought process first.
Sangram:That's exactly what I'm saying... and I always say one thing: life isn't what we get, life is what we make of it.
Ryan:Collecting, playing video games, or it's on Netflix, or always on TV, the whole day, 8-10 hours, doesn't eat properly, eats junk food, doesn't exercise at all, always because of video games.
Sangram:Doesn't he always eat upstairs?
Now let me tell you, I was also going to Arunachal Pradesh once, and I had mentioned this place before. So, a six-year-old child was reading a book, sitting next to me on the flight. I was very impressed. A six-year-old reading a book, instead of playing games or watching on mobile. Then his mother came, and I said, wow, what values you have instilled in him. She said, brother, no values.
mixed:Is.
Sangram:These children are like that, they observe what we do, learn from it, and become like that. Parents should take care of this. If parents say they are reading a book, then the child will read a book. If they fight, the child will fight. Sangram Singh's wise words: lead by example. So, mom and dad need to lead. Mom and dad need to lead the environment around them. Otherwise, there's nothing else. People say, look nowadays, you know what, in my life, there's no difference between what I say and what I do. Sorry, please say it again. In my life, whatever I speak, then I do, whatever I do, then I speak.
It's not like I'll just talk big and do nothing. Whatever I'll do, then I'll speak. Whatever I'll speak, then I'll do. There was a time when I had only 920 rupees in my account, and I left a 2.5 crore cold drink ad.
Ryan:What's the matter?
Sangram:Do you? Yes, I don't drink cold drinks, so I left it. Now money
Ryan:No
Sangram:There was something.
There were 920 rupees in the account, you go to Google, read the article. What is your motivation, Sangram? My motivation is that we came into this life with clenched fists, and we have to leave with open hands; we can't take anything with us.
How important is breath?
By drinking water, the position in which you eat, and the position in which you sleep, many of your ailments can be healed.
Ryan:Okay, so when it comes to healing a child, the mother and the child were studying, which means the parent...
Sangram:Parents should lead, see, remember that the teacher
mixed:And
Sangram:The child stays mostly with her.
Ryan:if
Sangram:In their womb, there is both creation and destruction. Creation means making something, and destruction means destroying something. If a mother, teacher, and parents, if all of them are good, then your life is set. Otherwise, if they turn out to be a bit bad. Now let me tell you something. If one doctor turns out to be bad, well, there is one doctor in your life.
one
Sangram:If a doctor turns out to be bad, what happens is that he will quickly send 50-100 people to a place where they shouldn't go. If an engine turns out to be bad, what will happen?
If five or seven bridges are built incorrectly, they will all lead you astray. If one teacher or one parent goes wrong, they can ruin the future of a country, which could have been anything. If you stray from your path, you don't just harm yourself, you harm the country. You could have been an asset to the nation. Time is very powerful, I always say that time is very powerful. Today, those who don't have passports, when there were no airplanes, even those who drove luxury cars used to travel to Haridwar in ninety-rupee pots. So, it's important to explain to children that their goal in life should be to study in schools and to understand the essence of life.
Ryan:In today's children, I see, I have my own child, eleven years old. Yesterday he had tuitions, so the teacher came, and he said, "Good evening, icon." Yes, he said that. I got very angry, went inside the room, and said, "Icon, please say good evening properly."
Sangram:What does "parvesh" mean?
Teach that child values, moral values, like how to respect others, how to react, how to manage, everything. If you start teaching the child from the age of two, that life is something, just like my mother used to teach me.
So if you are raising children with values, teaching them gradually, then they learn. And there's a saying that no matter how much you do, your child won't learn from you.
Ryan:the chicken at home
Sangram:Lentils are not equal to the opportunities outside, the home chicken is like lentils. They think it's fine, but you tell me, the big actors, the big sports persons, their children haven't made it. They can't make it. Because something comes out of a home. And remember, the passion, the fire.
mixed:Wealth
Sangram:And Vaibhav, let me tell you something important. Wealth and prosperity don't mean that your life is successful. A yogi, a hardworking person, or a fakir, they all work hard and earn their success. Inherited wealth or eyeing someone else's property, or getting something for free, that's the work of a thief. If you leave too much wealth for your children, you're ruining their lives.
If you want to leave something for your children, teach them values. Teach them values. They should know how to study and eat properly. If my father had money, I wouldn't have come here. I would have stayed there comfortably, gone to discos, driven cars, done all that. I wouldn't have gotten into sports or other things.
Ryan:Speaking of sports, because you said you had rheumatoid arthritis, what was the logic of getting into kushti and wrestling?
How did you get into it? Was it your parents' idea or your own? What was it like?
Sangram:Now look, I am from Haryana. Yes, in Haryana, wrestling is very famous.
Ryan:This
Sangram:There is a question, that if after tearing
mixed:Also
Sangram:First, there will be a wrestler. So once we wrestle, we win a medal but we don't wrestle. Remember, the player is the one who comes from a very poor family, from a needy family, and I come from a very humble background. There was respect for that, I wish I were a wrestler, a good wrestler is, and it is like a title, correct?
Let me explain what a wrestler means. Nowadays, the media has changed the meaning of a wrestler. They say, call a wrestler if there's a fight. "Pahal" means first, and "wan" means someone who is first in everything, physically, mentally, and in discipline. That person is a wrestler. Who is the person?
Who is mentally, physically, and disciplined first, he or she is a wrestler. Wrestling is a sport where no one charges money to teach. All the juniors will touch your feet. We touch the feet of our seniors, work for them, and do not answer back to them. I have only seen this in wrestling, not in other sports.
Ryan:Sangram, this is very good because I have seen Olympic medalists in wrestling, and if I look at sports nutritionists, I see other sports as well, the values they hold. The Guru...
Sangram:Even after becoming one, you won't stop. Even today, when I go to the village, there was a priest named Saturi Maharaj who started my wrestling journey. He didn't get married, he dedicated his entire life for us. And he devoted his life. You know what he used to say? He didn't want any of us to become wrestlers. He wanted us all to be healthy and avoid bad habits. If you avoid bad habits, your children will be strong. Then their children will be strong, and society will change, the state will change, the country will change. That person's thinking was unique. Wrestling, you know, wrestling. It's not new, it has been there since the times of Krishna and Bhima. Krishna and Bhima used to wrestle, and when the Olympics started in 1896 in Athens, there were only five games there: running, wrestling, and some other running event.
So, there were three, four, five games. Wrestling is a very old sport. And look, wrestling started in India. And we, India, gave wrestling to the world. India had fallen behind in wrestling. Now, there are new kids who are doing something, like Mr. Jadhav won a medal or other achievements. These games are very old, like karate, which I don't know deeply about, but I respect all sports. But nowadays, I get scared seeing the players because they are misled, being told to take steroids, injections, or certain substances to enhance performance.
Ryan:Because when you start feeling good, how does Sangram get built?
So you went into steroids, into supplements.
Sangram:What's the secret behind all this? That's why I'm powerful. I've been here for 40 years, and I've preserved something. I do everything, brother. I drink milk, I eat ghee. I eat rotis, I eat millet, nowadays I eat millet. I eat rice. I eat lentils. I eat everything. I eat jaggery. I eat sugar crystals. Honey. I used to drink 10 liters of milk. Eat ghee, eat rotis.
So, roti is a very powerful thing. Those who say, "I've given it up, I'm on a diet," hey Raju, if you don't eat, you'll feel dizzy. So, the secret to my strength is that I eat ghee every day, drink milk every day. That's how I stay strong. If anyone wants to be strong and last long, I'm telling you, stick to your traditional food. If your roots are strong, if your foundation is strong, you can build anything big.
If the foundation is weak, even one floor will collapse. If you stay connected to your roots, you will remain strong. So, the secret of my strength is milk, ghee, all these things. Many people give a lot of sermons these days that, nowadays...
But remember, if you live in India and don't give your child milk, ghee, and rotis, that child won't develop strength. You can write it down from me, that strength will come for two, five, or seven years, but then the body will start having issues, diseases will come. I still eat full meals, do everything fully, and work out fully. There was a time I couldn't walk a step, I used to get tired easily. Today, my stamina is my strength. My fitness is my strength. I've never worried about fat percentage, or any other percentage. Remember, the body and this world only see your presentation. Many people say he has six-pack abs, zero size, and he did this and that, but they are not fit. They just look fit. It's like a wall that will fall; if you paint it, it won't hold, it will fall.
Ryan:Two types of muscles, go muscle or show muscle?
That's it,
Sangram:If you, you focus more on muscle, this show will become your own.
Ryan:Correct, but nowadays everyone focuses on the show,
Sangram:Shortcuts are needed. People take shortcuts, which is wrong. You know what happens then? They get sick after a while. Many say, eat this protein, eat that. Now tell me yourself. Listen, brother, suppose you earn 50,00,000 rupees a month. If I give you more than a crore, you won't work anymore. You will sit comfortably because you were earning 50,00,000, and I gave you more than a crore, so you will relax.
If you add protein and other things, I say it won't harm you, but the natural protein that your body produces, the natural things, will stop working. You will get sick. You will take medicine. Natural is the best. Natural is the best. Whatever you eat, drink milk. No matter what anyone says, the best multivitamin, high protein, the best food, do you know what it is?
If you are happy, even a simple meal of dry bread and onions will feel satisfying. I'm telling you, there's no food richer in protein and more complete than that. But if you are unhappy or upset, no matter what you eat, it won't feel good. Now, if you happily bring a coconut paan, many will say, "Brother, if it doesn't build my muscles, I won't drink it." Yes, it will be harmful if you don't believe it's good for you. So remember, don't overthink it. If you get too caught up in things, you'll stay confused. There are many knowledgeable people, but who gives the real knowledge about milk, ghee, and such things?
In life, they never did two sticks, they say, doing dips will ruin your hands, ruin your body. I used to do 1200-1500 dips continuously, with hands placed, continuously with hands placed, the coach or brother would stand behind with a stick. I have done 1200-1500 continuously, dips with hands placed. Nowadays, people say a lot, nowadays I did fifty, I am going for that, I am going for that. Okay, the technique has improved, things have improved, but remember, your foundation is strong.
Ryan:Is there a milestone from your childhood that you remember, like you mentioned, one thousand?
Sangram:In push-ups, not one thousand, I used to do twelve hundred, fifteen hundred, seventeen hundred, and I still remember one time, it was Diwali.
Ryan:But there were no DOMS, no muscle soreness. Today, if you have to lift weights, if you have to do that intense workout, and if you have to mince through it, I used to do it every day.
Sangram:Applied oil on the body, tied a loincloth, and kept hands on the ground, then died once without hesitation.
Ryan:It was 20,
Sangram:22, 23, 18, 20, 22, 25, it was like that. And once, you know what happened? We used to get fruits or good food only when a guest came to our house. That's when we got fruits because we weren't from a family that could afford fruits regularly. It was very expensive, and we were from a very basic family. When relatives came over, we would get sweets that day. We would sit around and eat whatever we could. Sometimes we got biscuits or food, and sometimes fruits. Once, someone said they would give me bananas after Diwali. They said six bananas, which means half a dozen. For half a dozen bananas, I did 1300 push-ups that day on Diwali. For those six bananas, I did 1300 push-ups, and I told everyone that we should give two bananas each. That person did 2800 push-ups for two bananas each.
Ryan:What has happened to today's children is that they have everything, but they lack goals inside. Now they think, "I can make something." So sometimes when you come from a background where food can give you a lot of power, you're looking at making half a dozen cups, so you go to eat. Today, kids say, "Sir, what are you giving me? I want junk food, I want pizza, I want a burger."
What is your advice
Sangram:on junk food? Now, let me tell you something, remember this: when you eat junk food, it's like you're eating poison.
Even then, junk food, look, the day you are angry, if you want to punish yourself, then definitely eat junk food. Cold drinks, look, many ads show people drinking cold drinks or doing something, they all do that. Do you drink cold drinks every day? Does cold drink ever come to my house?
When no stain comes out, or when cleaning the toilet at home, and there are a lot of stains that won't come off the floor.
Ryan:We will come inside your house and clean the toilet.
Sangram:The cleaner will be made the head. Yes, absolutely you can make it, I also told them, when I had an offer worth so many crores, I had 920 rupees in my account, so do you know what I told them? I said, brother, they said you will have millions of followers, everything will happen, you will become such a big star, this will happen, that will happen. And I was living at someone's house just like that.
I said, brother, let Raj rest peacefully. The sand is slowly settling.
You take care of yourself
Ryan:Give it,
Sangram:I don't care about that. I don't look at it that way. I think if I take one rupee from somewhere, I give back three rupees' worth of work. I don't do any work for money.
I do it for passion. What difference does it make? We'll drink water and sleep, eat bread with onions and sleep. I do everything for passion.
Ryan:Speaking of passion. You people are from Haryana, when you start eating, you take something sweet first, am I right? Gujaratis, I don't have anything, your wife is Gujarati.
Your wife is Gujarati, I
Sangram:What am I bringing? Two or three dozen bananas, apples, and a few mangoes. What do you think I'm bringing? Listen, listen, I used to go like this. So, Payal Ji's brother or her mother, they were all, her mother was still happy. Brother, brother, do you know what they were thinking? That he will bring flowers, he will bring chocolates, all those things, right?
So I took fruits like bananas and apples, the usual stuff. Everyone looked at me, and they were like, with such expressions, I thought they might be feeling unwell. I usually stay normal, you know, you won't understand, you don't have manners, do you? I mean, I said, don't you get it? When you go to meet someone, you bring good chocolates, you bring nice flowers, you bring everything.
I noticed that eating chocolate can be harmful. Flowers, after two days, will attract mosquitoes, you understand? If you eat bananas, apples, and mangoes, you'll gain strength and be able to do some work. So, my thinking is like this. At home, we used to eat what was available; for three days, according to me, we would buy enough for four days. So, what happens is that in my videos, I share a type of lifestyle. Now, they exercise more than I do, do more yoga than I do, and are healthier than I am. So, in many things, you learn by observing and staying together.
Now, in my house, tea or coffee, I never drink it, I drink it very rarely. Because, if someone asks me, "Will you have tea or coffee?" I say, "Am I sick, brother?" Because tea and coffee are for sick people. You should drink plain water, lemon water, coconut water, buttermilk, milk. When I go to a hotel, I don't drink coffee. I say, "Bring me some milk with a little turmeric in it, and give me honey on the side."
So, do people look at me like that? Look, we've turned the world upside down. If someone does dips during the day or does something productive, people will say he's gone mad. But if someone smokes or drinks, people think he's enjoying life. This is a complete misconception. I'm telling you, he's not enjoying life; he's ruining it. Nowadays, when I see kids, you know what?
They'll keep smoking, thinking they're cool, but bro, you're ruining your life.
Ryan:Will rot.
Sangram:Yes, both the country and ourselves, and in every way, we are ruining everything. Do you know what Indian culture is, Brian? Let me tell you. According to our traditions, eating food is a sacred act. And staying hungry yourself to feed others is part of our culture. Wow, very powerful. But we are not understanding this. Nowadays, all the kids have become fools. They grow up with values in the name of education, in the name of ideals.
Haven't you read what things you're doing? If you don't stay connected to your roots, you can't move forward. So when I was wrestling or when I won in wrestling, or now if I might turn to another sport. At this age, what age, age is just a number, I know that if someone tells me to walk, they're walking, I say, after a hundred years, you only have to walk, until then run, exercise. Walking is for after a hundred years, understand?
Walking is accepted, but no one accepts a workout. If you walk, you'll get bored. Take me to the summit of a hundred peaks, I can't just walk, I need to keep running lightly. I can't just walk. If there are stairs, I climb up to the fourth floor normally, and I rarely sit down. So, my life routine continues like this. For me, whether it's the Prime Minister, a superstar, or a rickshaw driver, everyone is equal.
I think my country is great, so what about me? Do I need anything?
Ryan:No. So Sangram, we see that values are very important. Parents need to instill values in their children. But children, at 18 years, they become adults, with the right to vote, the right to drive, but I've noticed that many people aren't even registering to vote. So...
What is your advice to the youngsters from 18 to 30? Why is it important in our young democracy to vote and register and be vocal? Don't say things like, "Oh, my vote does not count."
Sangram:I want to tell everyone, especially my young friends who have just turned eighteen and will be voting this time. In this life, if you have any primary right, it is the right to vote, the right to cast your ballot. If you vote, only then can you change the country. How?
If I cast my vote, I will choose my candidate who is educated, sensible, and good for the country.
Ryan:But sir, little kids say that my vote will not count so
Sangram:many lakhs of people are voting. I'm trying to explain that, as they say, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. And this vast ocean, how big it is, is made up of countless drops. If you don't cast your vote on time, you are causing the greatest harm to the country. Don't choose candidates for selfish reasons, money, jobs, or family pressure. Vote for the person whose ideas you believe are good for our country. If you don't vote, it will be the country's biggest loss. Every single vote counts. Did you know that Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government fell by just one vote in Parliament in 1999? So, every single vote is very important. So, go and vote.
This vote, it's not just for yourself, vote for your family, vote for society, vote for the country. Your vote, every vote counts. I also get frustrated, saying that the country isn't changing, the government isn't doing this, the government isn't doing that, and on voting day, people are out on vacation.
Ryan:That's right.
Sangram:So, brother, remember that the country or the government will work only when we choose good representatives. They are our representatives, so if we choose well, they will work well for the country. This is our right, isn't it? Now, if there's an SP or DC in any area, they can't stop you from working. If they do, it means you don't know your rights. The taxes we pay, the money we earn, that's what pays their salaries. The Prime Minister is our servant, not the other way around. Modi Ji is right when he says he is a servant because we voted for him. The money we earn strengthens our democracy, runs the country, and keeps everything going. But it will only work if we choose wisely.
In the village, the wise person used to be chosen to make decisions. Nowadays, it's all about how many seats there are. Brother, how many seats are there? 500, right? Something like 540, right? Yes, out of 540, 500 are significant. Earlier, there used to be Panch Parmeshwar. The thing is, brother, if we don't use our vote wisely, it's like we're not using our life wisely. Every single vote counts a lot. Especially for the new generation, those between eighteen and thirty, you have to choose young candidates. You have to change the country. Some of you will become sports stars, some film stars, some entrepreneurs...
Some will become bureaucrats. If you don't cast your vote, where will the infrastructure come from? How will things happen? New...
Ryan:We need new thinking.
Sangram:Yes, we need new thinking. Absolutely new thinking will come when you choose the right candidate in the right way. Someone who is good for the country, who is good for everyone. So, make sure to vote.
The right to vote is the greatest right.
Ryan:Sangra, for voting and to stay relevant, to stay in the game... People who are getting older. You were first an athlete, then a celebrity. Now again you went back and you were winning. What was the mind shift? How did this switch happen in your mind?
Everyone thinks that at 40, 50, 60, you should retire. From exercise, from diet. But you went back into training, back into diet, back into winning. What was the journey?
Sangram:Where was the switch? Should I tell you? If I remove the word "wrestler" from my name, there's nothing left. If I remove the word "wrestler" from my name, there's nothing left, no matter how big I am.
Legacy matters! Legacy isn't about winning or losing. I didn't play this match for myself; I played it for all those kids who give up on their lives, who accept defeat. Whenever this thought crossed my mind, I wasn't here; I was on a flight, and someone was saying things like, "What's the state of wrestling? There's nothing in wrestling, this is happening, all these things are going on."
I have not played in the wrestling arena, you can see that. Then I thought, winning or losing doesn't matter, what matters is that I always say one thing, that a champion is not the one who comes first, wins a medal, or wins a trophy.
Ryan:As long as you say
Sangram:Yes, as long as you don't quit playing. No matter what field you're in, as long as you're in the field, you haven't lost; you are a winner until then. So when this thought came to my mind, I thought and I am telling all of you today, that actually, a person at forty-five years old, whether it's a boy or a girl, is actually young, mentally and physically.
By the time we reach forty-five, our bones have strengthened, our strength has increased, and our mental development has also occurred. From forty-five to seventy-five, you remain an angry young man, a young man; it's up to you whether you become old at twenty or stay young at a hundred. So, my belief is that I will rest for another 5-7 years, professionally, in different ways. I don't care about the results. If you ask me today to wrestle in the Olympics, I would say yes, absolutely, I will do it.
Because it's a passion, I do it for the passion, be passionate about something.
Ryan:Fergie won't be dependent on anyone.
Because everyone goes inside the office, I was a player, playing Ranji, wrestling, playing tennis, representing in college.
Sangram:Remember, a conqueror does not fall at the feet of circumstances. If you are a mountain, you do not fall to the ground. Rivers fall from heights, but the ocean does not fall into any river. If you make excuses, then forget about success.
If you want to succeed, then don't give excuses. So, I'm telling you, no one has endured as many illnesses as I have in my life. I couldn't stand, I couldn't walk, I couldn't speak. My eyes would open, but I could barely move due to the pain. I had become very thin, and doctors said I wouldn't survive for six months. We didn't even have enough money, so my mother would carry me in her arms for 2-3 kilometers because she couldn't afford the bus fare. We didn't have all these things; they would save an extra piece of bread for me. If there was no food, and a child said they weren't getting enough nutrition, my situation was such that after recovering, I would work in the fields all day, I had a job, I would work, and then do all this. Even now, wherever I go, whatever I do, I work out, I do these things because I know this is my only job, these are the things. If you make excuses, you can give any excuse like, "I'm not feeling well today," "the weather is bad today," or if someone is an alcoholic, right?
My father was just an ordinary man, he used to drink two pegs. Whenever I told him to quit, he would say, "It's too hot today, it's too cold today, I'm a bit sad today, I'm very happy today," meaning he would find any excuse. He used to say he didn't know Hindi well, but he spoke perfect English after two pegs. Then I convinced him, and he quit everything. Later, my elder brother explained, or we did it together. So, a person can find countless excuses. A doctor told me a few days ago that this and that happens because of cirrhosis. I told the doctor, "It might happen to you." I said I don't even know the spelling. I don't know what uric acid is, what the second thing is, what the third thing is. I don't even know what it is. Everything is here.
Ryan:mind
Sangram:Brother, if you have thought about it, you can do it. When I started wrestling, you won't believe it, when I went on the mat, there were six rounds of two to three minutes each in professional wrestling. I was getting tired in two minutes. On the first day, I couldn't complete even one round competitively. Everyone was laughing, everyone said to quit. But I believe I am a very crazy person.
Ryan:normal is boring and you should be crazy. Crazy
Sangram:You should be, until you go crazy, remember, who changed this world?
The world was changed by those whom the world didn't even consider capable of changing anything. And, don't be ordinary. Be extraordinary. And remember, this world was changed by a few crazy people who believed in themselves. The wise ones just sit and read about what they did, what they achieved. And I always say, if the people around you aren't laughing at your dreams, then your dream is too small.
From here, I chilled, from here, I chilled. Dhi Shita took things forward, so let me tell you about Delhi. Everyone was laughing, sitting and doing this and that. I thought to myself, there's a horse, right? A racehorse. If it doesn't run, it won't live long. It will catch some disease and die soon. So my habit was the same, brother. If I can't do this, then what's the purpose of my life? If we can't achieve what we think, then what's the point? In this world, after thirty years, 95 percent of people die. My belief is that if you fail, fail by doing what you love. If there's regret and risk in life, always choose risk. If you choose risk, you'll never have regrets. So I couldn't complete the two-minute round. I sat down and saw that my body wasn't moving, my hands weren't lifting.
It was that passion.
Ryan:What was the dialogue inside you to motivate yourself? Because there must be a voice saying you're old, give up.
Sangram:My inner dialogue was this: a few days before, I had some problem with my food pipe. I didn't know what it was, maybe some food got stuck. So, I went to a doctor, and the doctor said that my food pipe is not in good condition, it has a wound, it could be cancer, TB, infection, or something else. He suggested getting an endoscopy done.
I didn't get it done because everyone was saying the same thing. When I was doing those things, every day someone or the other would give me advice. In India, you see, 99 percent are "Raichands," meaning they give you free advice for no reason. Only 1 percent are "Karamchands."
In India, 99 percent are Raichands, so I was thinking, that day I didn't eat dinner. On the days I don't work out, I don't eat because I don't deserve to eat. Any food, on the days I exercise, I eat. I go to the airport, I don't sit in the lounge. Nowadays, even if you do business class, when I go to the airport, normally in business class, during walk-out time, I go to the toilet, stand up, and do 500 dips.
What do outsiders think, that he has an upset stomach, I come somewhere and they laugh, that he might be constipated, he might have loose motions, he's sitting in the toilet, I do that on time, I keep that in my hand, I adjust the chair, so I was in a bad mood, it was very hurting for me, I had a hotel room, I was staying in a good hotel in Delhi, I locked the room and for today I fast, I don't fast from food, I fast from gadgets for a day.
Ryan:A fast from gadgets?
Sangram:Yes, if you want to fast for a week, it doesn't matter if it's food or gadgets, just fast. And talk less, think more. If you don't talk to yourself for five minutes, understand that you are missing the chance to talk to the most beautiful person in the world. They say, we come to meet ourselves, but we end up meeting the world.
mixed:Wow!
Sangram:So... I talk and I do. I talked to myself, sat down and wrote, look, I'm not some big wrestler, there have been many bigger than me, there are many bigger, and there will be many bigger. If I believe that I want to give to sports, I want to leave a legacy. The next day I went to training, I had a fever of 102, the next day I went to training again, wore the same shoes, did the same things, I was applying that pain spray on my shoulder and everywhere, and I did two rounds that day, the first day I did two rounds, the next day with a fever I did two rounds again, then they thought to leave it, the third day I went to training again. Remember, this body and this mind, brain, they are your best servants and the toughest masters. If you make them your servant, you can achieve anything, but if you make them your master, they will ruin your life, they won't do any work, they are very lazy, they just want to burn out and be buried, so take as much work from them as you can, from both the mind and the body.
Mind and body, these two are such that the mind will command from here, and the body will follow. I am the master of my body when I am sitting with you, not thinking about what is happening in the world. Let it be, brother.
So
Sangram:I took my three sweaters to where they were supposed to be. Do you know what they do? They take them from Switzerland, make videos there, and it's good. They are in Switzerland, but at home, they are normal. So, everyone else was laughing. So, did you do two rounds on the second day?
I did two rounds, and on the third day, I got a fever of 103, and the fever wouldn't go down. So I took painkillers, which I usually don't take much of, but I took them and all sorts of things, and I went on the third day. Then the doctor did a check-up, a full body check-up, and said it might be a hernia. In life, you encounter two types of people.
Some people become a part of history, while some create it. That's what I believe. Then I thought, yes, I will die running, not on a chair. I said, no matter what happens, I will work out even more. If a guest comes to your house, give them good food and treat them well. If you give them less food on the first day and things get a bit tough, they will leave by the second day.
Ryan:It's the same.
Sangram:Yes, yes, yes, this pen is also like that. It happened here. I tell them not to do the treatment. Do the treatment. Do everything. Take all the precautions. But I am a bit crazy. I mean, I deal with it differently. That 20, 30, 40-day process, I made a decision and went through it. There was commitment in between. Can you believe it?
I showed that flag, and I was the first to run, completing a five-kilometer marathon in twenty-eight minutes. And I used to run less. My weight had increased because for a film, my weight was around 80-82.
I was drinking almond milk every day, doing all sorts of things. I went back to the basics of eating and drinking that I used to follow in the gym. Milk, ghee, everything. I trained every day, did muscle-ups. Earlier, I wasn't this fit in the gym. When I was 20-25, I wasn't this fit. Now I can do muscle-ups, front levers, back levers. I'm so fit now that I can walk on my hands from here to Bangalore. I don't get tired; I don't even know what getting tired means. It's all a mind game. So remember, those who make excuses saying you're 40 and the doctor says you'll have a heart attack, nothing will happen. I'm telling you, you can wrestle until you're 75. Wrestling is the top sport. In boxing, you have gloves, in judo, you have uniforms, in cricket, you have bats, in badminton, you have rackets. In wrestling, it's just body-to-body contact. And you can wrestle until you're 70 if you continue. There's no reason to think you'll lose or win. So, brother, these are all excuses. If someone tells you to get checked after 40, do get checked, it's a good thing, but there's no need to worry. Heart attacks happen to those who overthink. Remember, those who enjoy life a bit are a little crazy. The overly sensible ones are always tangled in 3-5 things. They don't live life fully. The overly educated person neither lives life fully nor achieves much. The one who is a bit foolish like me, lives life to the fullest. Understand? So, on the first day, I couldn't even do 30 minutes. Now, before wrestling, I do 30 minutes of 10 rounds. Earlier, I could barely do 5 rounds. Now, I'm doing rounds with four or five wrestlers. Standing, in this, in that, with the neck, with this, with that. There's a wrestler, Dharam Pehlwan, in CISF, he's very senior. Now, he's an officer, he was the chief coach. I requested him, he's very senior, I had wrestled with him in the arena. So, Pehlwan Ji, you have to do it. He trained me a lot. There was a coach with me, Bhupesh Ji, Bhupesh Kumar Ji, so all of them...
We kept at it, meaning the whole day we were saying how proficient we are.
I enjoyed it so much. I enjoyed it so much that it's amazing, I recommend you travel to this country. I used to go elsewhere. Now I am ready to play another match, to do other things. It's not like I played one match and sat down and said I'm done. Remember that even bad days come. Even bad days come. Once everyone reaches the top. Yes. The real champion is the one who goes up and maintains that position. And I get a lot of inspiration from kids, from all of this. Everything is within your limitations. Now, there is a, a pony, a pony, that runs in the race.
mixed:Pony
Sangram:The owner Shyam even tells how much he earns. A thousand rupees, twelve hundred rupees. Broken, always broken. A horse kicks once. Earns crores of rupees, in two cycles. So brother, to become that horse, you need the right mindset. Now, you know, our defeat is not that the world doesn't recognize us. Our defeat is that we don't recognize ourselves. If we recognize ourselves, then there's no problem. I know what I need to do, so nothing else matters to me. As I grow older, I keep letting go of everything.
I mean, I'm completely selfless. What do I live for? I'm letting go of everything.
Ryan:Tell us about that, what, yes, you're a wrestler, but a movie star, what was the journey over there?
Sangram:I've done films before, but not that many. Our Chief Minister is a very good friend of mine, and he said that the youth here watch gangster-type films and are more inclined towards drugs. He suggested that I start something of my own. This film was very good, and an OTT platform there even bought it. I've done songs there, and now three will be released. We've done all the shooting. You won't believe it, but kids aged 20-22 have sung the songs, written them, and shot them. They've done an amazing job. These kids didn't have any work and were just sitting idle. Those who sing gangster or drug-related songs are very popular and have a lot of work. But after this, they'll start getting work. I believe in setting trends. Many superstars have left negative roles.
Do you know why I left those roles? Take the example of a film like Dangal. I was supposed to wrestle with Aamir Ji. A superstar called me home and said, "Sangram, this is a very good role." I said, "Brother, it's a 20-minute role." He said, "That's great." I asked, "What is this character doing?" He said, "He's a terrorist who kidnaps children." I said, "I'm busy at that time." He said, "We'll adjust according to your schedule." Then I sent him a long message, saying, "Brother, the thing is, my goal is not just to become an actor. My goal is to leave a legacy. I don't work for money. Whatever I do, I do it with purpose." Then I told him, "I was born a hero, and I will die a hero."
Ryan:Absolutely right.
Sangram:So, I don't do any work that isn't notable or is negative.
Earlier, I didn't know I had to work, like Big Boss and all, I did those when I bought a house, I had a little money. When I used to win medals or competitions, I didn't get a single rupee, you understand, right? So, now I'm doing one or two web series, making films, so my belief is to do notable work, that you do everything with one job. That's why I did the film, that's why I'm doing other things.
Ryan:So, if Sangram is on set, and his assistant asks, "Sangram Ji, what would you like to eat?"
So, what do you want
Sangram:into your green room? You won't believe it, when I went for the shoot, I called everyone, "Hey, you guys come here, you all are like my little brothers and sisters." You know what I had for food? Sugarcane juice.
mixed:You won't believe it, when I went for the shoot, I called everyone, "Hey, you boys come here, you all are like my younger siblings, for my food, do you know what it was? It was sugarcane juice."
Sangram:There used to be fruits,
mixed:So their menu changed, I mean mine
Sangram:From the beginning, there was only potato, tea, nothing else, sometimes juice. Then I thought, juice will spoil in this heat, so keep this, keep this. So, from home, there was something normal, I used to get roti from home, I would have roti and vegetables made at home, I didn't need anything else, just have it made for me.
Where was this shooting? In Haryana, I did different locations. Now I shoot outside as well, here too, I do it. So, when I shoot, I eat the food that is appropriate for my age. I don't eat food that isn't. If you eat biscuits, what is the age of a biscuit? If you eat fruit, then you can add fruit to the biscuit, so it can be fruit.
So eat the food that is appropriate for your age, and you will stay young for a long time. Now we are in the age range of 38, 40, 45, 40, meaning, in this circle. So in this circle, we are still becoming young. Physically and mentally, when I go to the set or anywhere, I stay active. Earlier, I didn't know, but let me tell you, I am a very good actor. Now the problem is, I am working with a few notable makers where I should be seen as a wrestler, but they see me as an actor, and where I should be seen as an actor, they see me as a wrestler. So I enjoy it, now everyone knows me, so they see me as a wrestler. If I do some notable work, I will get more work with them. And I don't ask anyone for work. I can say once that if there is a good opportunity, let me know. But it's not a habit. I think that later on, it will become a way. I do a lot of TV.
Ryan:I know you're a motivational speaker also.
Will you ever be a coach
Sangram:to somebody? I was going to do something with Prakash Jha sahab. Prakash Jha is a renowned actor. He is a very good friend. And I was going to do a film, a biopic of India's first Olympic medalist, K. D. Jha sahab. Shyam Benegal was directing that film. I gave three years, started losing weight, started learning Marathi, did everything.
And the film was announced, but then it got shelved, and I had signed a contract that I couldn't take up other work. I used to travel from here, from Versova to Haji Ali, to town, every day to learn. When the film didn't happen, I exhausted all my savings because of the daily commute. Then I sat down and thought, well, at least I learned from a legendary person. I never think about loss or gain.
What should I say about the change? No, I said your popped... in your films, there's a bit of this and that, mine is a bit different. And you're the first person to talk to me about all this. I sang their first song, it was my first too. The singer was a boy from Pakistan, the director was based in India, the girl was from Russia or Ukraine, something like that. We shot it well. Then there was a film, Mahesh Bhatt sir said he was making a film called "God of Cricket," which means they praise him. I wasted a year and a half on that too. There were some issues in between, but Mahesh Bhatt sir told me one thing, that a hero is a hero, he romances with his eyes, he does everything with his eyes.
So I said, Imran Hashmi is your hero, right? I mean, a hero holds the audience. So I said, Imran Hashmi is your hero because he tries different things in all his films. Then I said, no, he has his own style, you have your own. The way you speak, it feels like you are right. You should look at Dharmendra or Sunil Dutt. So I learned from them. Then, I met Prakash Jha for another project.
So
Sangram:He said, "Brother, Sangram Ji, will you help me? I am setting up an ashram, can you supervise the wrestling?" I said, "Sir, I have never done it before." He said, "Just take a look." So there were three girls, Aditi, and the others, and Bobby. You won't believe it, I just showed them a video of how to walk, and within three days, they became wrestlers to the extent that it seemed like they had been wrestling for years. A coach is like a therapist.
When I coach, I feel that I will prove to be a much better coach. Because I don't go by what is imposed, I go by what is scientific, practical, and in accordance with nature. If you have confidence in yourself, you gain the trust of others. What I have achieved was unexpected, and I don't know if it was due to lack of guidance or circumstances, but I couldn't do it. I will definitely try to make many of my students champions, and they will definitely go on to win medals for the country. Along with that, my dream will also come true.
If
Ryan:If you come to my office in Bangalore, above my door, I have written a big statement: "I will not rest till one of my athletes wins a gold medal." So our mindset should be that for the nation and for the children, there should be values and goals.
Sangram:If you don't have a goal, then there's no path.
And this country is not built by policies,
Swati Nakshatra's bird was released. If it opened its mouth, it would open it for the rain, hoping that a drop of rain would fall into its mouth and turn into nectar. And then there is the vulture. The vulture is the largest bird, considered the king, but it stays at the highest point only to pick up someone's flesh or to tear someone's head. So, brother, in life, don't become a vulture. Even if you become the bird of Swati Nakshatra, your thinking should be right. I believe in this, that your contribution should turn positive, not negative.
I don't even know what will happen an hour later. I used to make plans, like today I'll do this, tomorrow that, the day after something else. But now, whatever comes my way, I leave everything. I don't know the plan for the next minute, what I'm going to do, what's going to happen. Efforts never die, there's no word like 'end' in my life. 'End' means efforts never die. There's no 'no' in my life, 'no' means next opportunity. There's no 'fail' in my life, 'fail' means first attempt in learning.
So, brother, I don't have any special talent, just one talent. I never give up in any situation. No matter how much I have to do, how much effort I have to put in, no matter what people say, I will come back, I will stand up again. And when I was resting, one thing was on my mind: your comeback should be stronger compared to your setback.
Ryan:Your comeback should be stronger than your setback. Stronger than your setback. And don't do anything else.
Sangram:No
Ryan:Do something.
Sangram:Life is the same, irritated. Even though I have just come here, Mumbai has brought me here. Mumbai is a big city, we only know the village. What is life? I go outside too, and now that I have come here, just watch. In three years in this city, God will create such situations that I will change a lot in this environment.
Wonders. And I always say that compliments make the day and taunts make life. When someone tells you that something is done, I say, "Alright, no problem."
Ryan:Sangram Singh, I am for transparency, I have been impressed. I have been motivated. I canceled my creative last week and I'm 48 years of age.
And yeah, and I just said to myself when you were telling me about, everything is here and we are still young. I was like, I'm calling my sensei back again and I'm going to tell him never die. Attitude. It's been a pleasure. Sangram Singh, you are truly, therefore we present you. Not a motivational expert, but you are really a guru.
Sangram:Thank you, Rahan Bhai, thank you. We are all disciples in India, we are all learners. But the thing is, in life, you realize that you have to do what you need to do. So, whatever comes to my heart, I try to do it. I live for myself, not for the world.
When it comes from within, son, you should do this thing.
Ryan:you should do it. I remember you called, when I called you up and I said, the script is good, this is it, questions come up. He says, you said, Ryan brother, I am speaking from the heart. Whatever comes, I will speak from the heart. So, I think that really epitomizes you, that is who you are.
Yes,
Sangram:I mean, I can't read and speak, I don't know, it's God's grace, what He makes me say, what He does, I'm not very educated, I don't read many books either. But still, I don't read many books. I read some books at night, like when I go somewhere or write. I recite the Hanuman Chalisa every day, it's been my routine for so many years.
I mean, I recite the Hanuman Chalisa and then go to sleep.
When I sleep, I sleep as if I am the greatest person in the world, the most successful person. When I wake up, I wake up the same way. Even if there is a loss, or something happens, the day I suffer the most, I laugh that day. Suppose there is a theft, someone will take it, then I won't buy it, I will just keep tying it here. So, I don't compete with anything in life. Whatever is happening, let it happen, let it come, let it go, everything is like that. The body, you know, is made of the five elements of creation. The body, you know, is made of the five elements of creation. Earth, water, if your mind is a little disturbed, just mix a little nail and sit like this. If it's very disturbed, sit like this. If you have a cough or cold, or if there is a vitamin deficiency, you don't need to take multivitamins, just sit for ten minutes, you'll be recharged. And if you have a burning sensation in your urine, mix fire and water, mix fire and earth, and your cough, cold, everything will be fine, vitamins will be replenished. Mix it, focus your mind, if you have acidity, do this, sit like this, massage your feet, do it more here, 90 percent of it works from here. That's why, for the whole body, someone might say, how can it be from here, sir? The body is connected, I said, if you have a headache, the doctor gives an injection on the arm or the buttocks, so I said, that's it. Everything works from here.
If you believe, it's like the holy Ganges; if you don't, it's just sitting water. Try this, it's very strong. I sit in Vajrasana, I run on my knees, my knees have had fractures, everything has happened, but I fixed it by tying a leaf. I run and jog in the park, on the road, in the streets, everything is normal. When I train, the kids these days...
If you're preparing for the Olympics, that training will be my warm-up. I train at a very high level.
Ryan:I do. You do 1200 push-ups here, reset something here. Now I do 1200.
Sangram:No, I don't. I used to before. Now I train differently. Now, I do it two days, one day before, did you read what I learned? Like when they get up from behind, I get up without the night. I place my hands here, stand straight, and do a muscle-up. I, muscle-up, I will do a muscle-up here on my stomach. So they say, no, no, I learn. You understand, right? So I am crazy, I mean whatever I see, I try to do it.
And do you know what my attitude is when I step onto the mat?
When the opponent isn't standing, I'll stand firm. Either I'll fall, or he will. I'll stay naked. Winning or losing doesn't matter to me. This mindset wasn't there before because back then, I wasn't that wise. When I was actually in amateur wrestling, around 20, 22, 25 years old, if I had this mindset, I would have definitely gone to the Olympics and won a medal, no matter the situation.
Back then, the mindset was just that representing India would get me a job.
Ryan:And this is the
Sangram:mindset
Ryan:that we need to reach millions of Olympic hopefuls.
Sangram:Just now, I even sent a message to Anurag Ji, our Sports Minister, saying that we have a lot of facilities, we have invested a lot of money and time, but we don't have good Sports Psychologists. Even educated people don't understand this. The players don't understand this either. It needs to be addressed.
Can anyone understand robotics? Foolish Bharat, but custom is just one thing in itself. How is the code? You need to have a mind, so when a bird can fight, then all the players are the same. We wish that this time we go to the Olympics and win many medals.
Ryan:Sangram ji, what's next?
What's your next trailer, next movie, next medal, next wrestling match?
Sangram:This is just the beginning. Next, you'll see me on different platforms. You'll see me in movies, you'll see me on the mat, and you'll see me on a different mat. Wow. Preparations are underway. So, what's next will be very surprising and good.
I want every move of mine to inspire all my young friends.
Ryan: You inspired me today, Sangram. Thank you so much for today. Thank you so much. Thank you for watching till the end. This has been an amazing episode and I am so grateful that you stayed with us till the end. If you liked this video, please share it with your loved ones.
